Implementation of the Baldwin County Public Schools Academic Plan at Daphne East Elementary School

At Daphne East Elementary School, we are committed to providing every student with engaging, rigorous, and meaningful learning experiences that promote academic growth and success. Our school-wide improvement efforts are aligned with the Baldwin County Public Schools Academic Plan, which focuses on four key areas: Data-Driven Decision Making, Prescriptive Professional Development, Coaching and Support, and Instruction and Intervention.

Through collaborative planning, professional learning communities, ongoing assessment, targeted instruction, and evidence-based intervention, we use student data to identify strengths and areas for growth and to ensure that instruction meets the individual needs of every learner.

Literacy/Reading

Goal:
Daphne East Elementary School will increase reading achievement and student growth through standards-based, evidence-based literacy instruction that provides targeted support and enrichment for all learners.

Strategies:

• Use multiple sources of student data and formative assessments to monitor achievement, identify instructional needs, and guide instructional decisions.
• Conduct collaborative grade-level and school-based data meetings to analyze student performance and develop responsive instructional plans.
• Provide standards-based literacy instruction aligned with the Alabama Course of Study and district curriculum, pacing, and instructional expectations.
• Provide targeted small-group instruction, intervention, enrichment, and differentiated learning opportunities based on individual student needs.
• Utilize the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and the Problem-Solving Team (PST) process to identify and address students' academic needs.
• Provide prescriptive professional learning, coaching, and collaborative support to strengthen teachers' literacy practices and maximize student outcomes.
• Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and use results to adjust instruction and intervention.

Mathematics

Goal:
Daphne East Elementary School will increase mathematics achievement and student growth through standards-based, evidence-based mathematics instruction, targeted intervention, and opportunities for students to develop problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills.

Strategies:

• Use formative, benchmark, and classroom assessment data to identify student strengths, areas of need, and appropriate next steps for instruction.
• Conduct collaborative grade-level and school-based data meetings to monitor student progress and develop responsive instructional plans.
• Provide mathematics instruction aligned with the Alabama Course of Study, district curriculum, pacing expectations, and current state initiatives.
• Provide targeted intervention, enrichment, small-group instruction, and differentiated learning based on student data.
• Implement research-based instructional strategies that promote conceptual understanding, fluency, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and student discourse.
• Provide professional development, coaching, and collaborative support based on identified instructional needs.
• Utilize MTSS and the PST process to provide increasingly intensive support for students requiring additional academic intervention.

Students with Disabilities

Goal:
Daphne East Elementary School will promote academic growth and achievement for students with disabilities through inclusive, standards-based, data-informed instruction and individualized supports aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Strategies:

• Collaborate intentionally among general education teachers, special education teachers, interventionists, and support staff to plan instruction and monitor student progress.
• Provide specially designed instruction and accommodations in accordance with each student's IEP.
• Use student data to identify instructional needs, monitor progress, and adjust instruction and intervention.
• Provide access to grade-level standards and rigorous learning experiences while providing appropriate supports and scaffolds.
• Strengthen inclusive instructional practices through professional learning, coaching, collaboration, and shared planning.
• Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and use data to inform instructional decisions and future planning.
• Utilize MTSS and problem-solving processes to coordinate appropriate academic and behavioral supports for students.

Goal:
Daphne East Elementary School will foster a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment in which students develop ownership of their learning, build positive relationships, and are empowered to grow academically, socially, and personally.

Strategies:

• Engage students in reviewing their academic progress, identifying areas for growth, and setting meaningful academic and personal goals.
• Provide opportunities for students to reflect on their learning, monitor their progress, and take ownership of their achievement.
• Establish a positive school culture that promotes high expectations, student engagement, belonging, responsibility, and respect.
• Provide leadership opportunities that encourage students to collaborate, serve others, solve problems, and contribute positively to the school community.
• Develop strong, inclusive relationships among students, staff, families, and community partners to support student success.
• Provide opportunities for students to participate in clubs, service activities, collaborative learning experiences, and other leadership opportunities.
• Implement proactive supports that promote positive behavior, student engagement, and a safe and supportive school environment.
